The Mighty Jungle website is a site for preschoolers to engage in a various number of different, simple applications. They are able to play games, create their own content and share that content with family and friends.
The match game allows the users to play a simple match up game and are awarded a "prize" in the form of an animation involving Bruce, Babu and Rhonda, the characters from the Mighty Jungle. Other applications include a coloring book, and a dress up game, both of which can be used to customize characters and print them off to share.
The most impressive application however is the story builder, which allows the children to create their own story by choosing a base story, and then selecting different options to fill in the blanks from predetermined groups. The stories are then generated, with pictures, and displayed on the screen where a narrator reads the story aloud as the user follows along. A great looking "flip" animation when turning pages really brings the story to life, and at the end of it all the user can print their story out, along with the pictures, so they can share it or have it read to them anytime they wish.
theREDspace used Flash, ActionScript and XML as the base languages for the project in conjunction with Halifax film. The Mighty Jungle's site launched in mid-May 2009, to a wide range of users through the Canadian distributer CBC, and the U.S distributer, PBS.
