 The Cartoon Creator is an application built in Action Script 3/Flex which allows children to create, playback and share cartoons that they create.  Being given a variety of characters, sets and music from their favorite TV shows, the users are free to make their own show, save it and upload it.   The result being a fun user created cartoon show that they can enjoy, show to their friends and be proud of.

Adding new content into the Cartoon Creator is made simple through our Flex built CMS system which exists behind the scenes.  The system supports multiple languages, and is very user friendly for quick and easy uploading of new TV show content.  Special attention was paid around decoupling all content, allowing for a large degree of customizability from the CMS tool.

 We also implemented a “Safe Chat” and Hot Phrase” filter system that was made popular in Nicktropolis.  These filters manage the words that are entered into the text field, ensuring that no inappropriate content is used in the cartoons.  It also makes it easier to complete common clean phrases by offering auto-completed phrases for the user.  Altogether it was a fun project to do for Nickelodeon, and consider it to be very successful.
