Nick.com "Big Help"

Nickelodeon's "Big Help" is a website dedicated to getting kids to volunteer and help the environment, their community and ultimately themselves. The worldwide "Day of Play" was a big catalyst to the production of the site. Kids wanting to take part in the Day of Play can Register on the Big Help site, and log all the volunteer hours that they accumulate. During the Day of Play, Nickelodeon goes completely "dark" meaning there are no shows on Nick, encouraging kids to get outside the house and play. This site is linked directly to the Nicktropolis virtual world that allows kids to play an interactive game where they can socialize with other kids, and earn new swag (in this case through more volunteer work).

theREDspace completed this website for Nickelodeon using PHP and Wordpress for the "pro-social" page on the site, and the usual Spring, JSP and tiles as the standard technologies for nick.com sites. This website includes areas that were designed for kids navigation, as well as areas where parents can gather resources to assist their children in their volunteering. There is registration on the site, which includes a pop-up form to complete, and the ability to track data for registered users. There is also several guides and Log sheets that can be downloaded by the user.
